The people of the Carterets Islands, in Papua New Guinea, are the first entire people to officially be evacuated because of climate change. Their islands are being swallowed by the sea and their crops of banana, taro and breadfruit destroyed by storm surges and king tides. As the winner of the annual Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Journey of a Lifetime Award, I traveled to the islands to witness the first wave of the evacuation and to make a BBC radio documentary about what is happening. This blog tells the story of what I found.
